Robert Aldrich’s gripping tale of courage and suspense starring James Stewart and Richard Attenborough, THE FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX will be released on Blu-ray on 12 September 2016. Special Features have now been confirmed.

One of Hollywood’s toughest and most idiosyncratic filmmakers, Robert Aldrich (Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, The Dirty Dozen) had one of his greatest and most cherished popular successes with the thrilling adventure classic THE FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX, headlined by an all-star cast including James Stewart, Richard Attenborough, Peter Finch, Ernest Borgnine and Hardy Krüger.

A cargo plane carrying an assortment of oilmen and military personnel crashes in the Sahara Desert during a sandstorm. Realising they’re too far off course to be found and rescued before food and water runs out, their only hope is to attempt to rebuild the aircraft amidst the unforgiving environment.

An engrossing mix of intensely physical filmmaking and marvellous character turns across the board, THE FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX is a vivid chronicle of men under pressure, with unsettling questions about the nature of leadership. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present a new Blu-ray special edition of the film.

The Special Features have been confirmed as follows:

New high-definition 1080p presentation
Uncompressed mono soundtrack
Isolated music & effects track
New video interview with film historian Sheldon Hall
Original theatrical trailer
English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired
PLUS: A booklet featuring a new essay by film scholar Neil Sinyard, and archival imagery

FEDORA, Billy Wilder’s spellbinding meditation on cinema starring William Holden and Marthe Keller, will be released in a Dual Format edition as part of the Masters of Cinema Series on 19 September 2016.

For his penultimate film, Billy Wilder created this elegiac, potent and richly entertaining mystery. Reuniting with one of his greatest actors William Holden, and co-written with his longtime collaborator I.A.L. Diamond, this is an exquisitely crafted tale of romance and intrigue.

Washed-up producer Barry ‘Dutch’ Detweiler (William Holden) attempts to lure the iconic but reclusive actress Fedora (Marthe Keller) out of retirement in a bid to revive both their careers. But her privacy is hard won, and with good reason, and opening up the secrets surrounding her could spell disaster.

Continuing the exploration of themes first examined in Sunset Boulevard, now decades later through the prism of New Hollywood, Fedora is a great filmmaker’s testament, and a masterful, stirring exploration of cinema’s power. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present a new dual-format special edition for the first time on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK.

Confirmed Special Features:
New high-definition 1080p presentation
Deleted Scenes
English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired
Restoration Comparison
A booklet featuring a new essay by film scholar Neil Sinyard, a new essay by critic and filmmaker David Cairns, a vintage piece on the film’s production, and archival imagery

PATHS OF GLORY, Stanley Kubrick’s First World War masterpiece starring Kirk Douglas, as part of the Masters of Cinema Series on Blu-ray for the first time in the UK on 19 Sept 2016.

A shattering masterpiece by one of the medium’s greatest artists, Stanley Kubrick’s Paths of Glory announced the definitive arrival of a towering figure in cinema.

In the French front lines of World War I, after giving the order for an impossible and disastrous mission to capture a nearby stronghold, the upper ranks move to save face by having three randomly selected soldiers held and tried for cowardice under pain of death. Their leader, Colonel Dax (in a powerhouse performance by Kirk Douglas) a former lawyer in civilian life, handles their defence against overwhelming odds.

A stylistically astonishing, emotionally overwhelming anti-war drama, Paths of Glory is one of the screen’s most brilliant condemnations of the power structures guiding warfare. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present a new Blu-ray edition for the first time in the UK, with a plethora of special features!

SPECIAL FEATURES:
• High-definition digital presentation
• New video interview with Kubrick scholar Peter Kramer
• New video interview with filmmaker Richard Ayoade
• New audio commentary by film scholar Adrian Martin
• Original theatrical trailer
• English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired
• Isolated music & effects track
• PLUS: A booklet featuring the words of Kubrick, and more!
